Michael Oatman investigates collections of local model makers in a project entitled Model Citizens: 42° 22’ 12.11” N, 71° 06’ 11.45” W. After seeking out and studying local makers of dollhouses, model railroads, dioramas, and scale models, Oatman re-presents their work in an exhibition about curiosity of the world in miniature. Oatman will also present a video of his project at the end of the three-state tour.

Oatman is the second of three artists participating in the traveling public art project Public Art/Moving Site, an innovative public art project that stretches the concept of “site”. Cambridge, MA, Bellows Falls, VT, and New Haven, CT collaborate to host a series of three public art installations that offer audiences an opportunity to consider public art in its ability to make geographic and cultural connections through a variety of forms and activities.

Michael Oatman’s work has included museum and gallery exhibitions and public art projects throughout the United States. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from University of Albany in New York and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. He has received grants from the Nancy Graves Foundation, and the NYSCA/RCCA: The Arts Center, among others. Oatman lives and works in Troy, New York.
