"Of(f) the table - everything must go"
April 18 – May 26, 2006
Reception: Thursday, April 27, 2006, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
CAC Gallery presents Of(f) the Table- everything must go an exhibition by Spurse artist collective related to their simultaneous installation The Public Table at 290 Main Street in Kendall Square. The Public Table is a six-week provisional restaurant that designates food as a site for public art. To accomplish this, Spurse gleans food, supplies, and equipment from donations while walking around Cambridge. "Of(f) the table - everything must go" transforms the gallery into a free store stocked with food and supplies gleaned from the previous New Haven and Bellows Falls sites for The Public Table. Spurse's exhibition and provisional restaurant are part of an exploration of the culture, practices, and role of food within the Cambridge community.

Spurse is the last of three artists participating in the traveling public art project Public Art/Moving Site, an innovative public art project that stretches the concept of “site”. Cambridge, MA, Bellows Falls, VT, and New Haven, CT collaborate to host a series of three public art installations that offer audiences an opportunity to consider public art in its ability to make geographic and cultural connections through a variety of forms and activities.
