    LP Gas Use Permit

No person shall install or connect any LP-Gas equipment unless a permit has been obtained from the Fire Department. This section does not apply to make connections in the replacement of a portable container or the filling of a stationary container. The Fire Department may limit the quantity of LP-Gas that may be stored under a permit or order the installer of a system to meet additional requirements.
527CMR § 6

No permit will be required for the storage and use of an amount less than 42 pounds (ten gallons), provided the the provisions of 527 CMR 6.01 through 6.07 shall apply.

Application For Installation of LP-Gas

  • Application must be made in person to the Fire Prevention office.
  • Application must be made in the name of the owner or occupant of the premesis by the person, firm, or corporation who will make the installation or connection.
  • If the aggregate amount exceeds 2,000 gallons, then a license must first be obtained and submitted with the permit application.
  • If the storage exceeds 10,000 gallons in any one tank, the requirements of 527CMR 12 (state fire marshal compliance) must be complied with and submitted with the permit application.
