RESIDENTS URGED TO CLEAR SNOW FROM HYDRANTS

With the forecast of another significant snowfall, the Cambridge Fire Department is urging residents to clear snow from hydrants in their neighborhoods.

In the event of a fire, establishing a reliable water supply from the closest hydrant is extremely important. Also when hydrants remain buried under snow they sometimes become blocked by parked automobiles.

It is also important to make sure that any vents from heating equipment or gas fired appliances remain clear in order to prevent the accumulation of carbon monoxide gas.

Residents are also encouraged to have a supply of flashlights and batteries on hand in the event of power loss due to the storm. Use of candles during power outages is strongly discouraged.
