Sky Lanterns Prohibited in Cambridge

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Fire Services has recently fielded several inquiries regarding the use of "Sky Lanterns".

Sky Lanterns are paper balloons under which a candle or other open flame device has been attached.

The State Fire Marshal has advised that the Head of the Fire Department in each community can determine whether the use of these devices is allowed.

Due to the density within the City of Cambridge along with the abundance of wooden structures; Cambridge Fire Chief Gerald Reardon has determined the use of Sky Lanterns within the City of Cambridge is not allowed.
