Cambridge Fire & Police Youth Public Safety Academy

 March 6 – April 10, 2006

The Cambridge Police and Fire Department will be hosting a six-week Youth Public Safety Academy, which will be held at the Cambridgeside Galleria Public Safety Room (located next to the Registry of Motor Vehicles office, third floor), 100 Cambridgeside Place.   Training will be held per schedule as indicated below. 

Participants will be both Girls and Boys between the ages of 11 to 13 years old that reside in the City of Cambridge. This six-week program will involve a series of hands on training, lectures and field trips to various locations throughout the City of Cambridge. 

Materials and training presented will include: Emergency Medical Service, Arson Investigation, Fire Safety, Fingerprinting & Evidence Collection, Confined Space Rescue and Bomb Detection Equipment.  Following program completion students should have a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of  Police Officers and Firefighters.

Curriculum and Schedule:

Week #1 - March 6, 2006
3:30pm – 4:30pm Welcome and Introduction
4:30pm – 5:30pm Traffic Unit (Radar)

Week #2 – March 13, 2006
3:30pm – 4:30pm Fire Equipment
4:30pm – 5:30pm ECC Tour

Week #3 – March 20, 2006 
3:30pm – 4:30pm ID Unit/Fingerprinting & Evidence Collection
4:30pm – 5:30pm Fire Protection Systems
Fire Lieutenant Chris Towski (Smoke Detectors)
Fire Captain Sandy Francis (Suppression Systems)

Week #4 – March 27, 2006 
3:30pm – 4:30pm Emergency Medical Service (CPR and AED)
Fire Captain William Brathwaite
4:30pm – 5:30pm Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.)

Week #5 – April 3, 2006
3:30pm – 4:30pm Fire Investigation

4:30pm – 5:30pm Bomb Detection Unit/ Bomb Dog (MBTA)

Week #6 – April 10, 2006 
3:30pm - 4:30pm SRT
4:30pm – 5:30pm Confined Space Rescue
