Fresh Pond Reservation Dog Medallion Program Frequently Asked Questions
Why is this being done?
The Fresh Pond Reservation Dog Medallion Program has been developed in cooperation with Cambridge resident dog owners and City staff in order to better protect our city’s drinking water while allowing Cambridge residents to enjoy a quality off-leash experience with their dog. The Medallion Program will assist Reservation Rangers with enforcement of Reservation rules and regulations.
Where do I get a Medallion for my dog?
Medallions are issued at the Water Department Ranger Station located at 250 Fresh Pond Parkway at the times posted. The entrance to the Ranger Station is on the Reservoir side of the building below the clock tower. The Cambridge Animal Commission does not issue medallions. Medallions can only be picked up in person by the applicant at Fresh Pond Reservation.
Do I have to renew my Medallion yearly?
Yes, your medallion must be renewed on a yearly basis coinciding with your dog license certificate.
Have the dog ordinances at Fresh Pond Reservation changed?
Yes, there have been some changes to ordinances regarding dogs, both on- and off-leash.
Can I walk my dog at Fresh Pond Reservation without a medallion?
Yes, provided that the dog is on a leash of no more than 6 feet in length and the handler complies with all rules and regulations of the Reservation.
