Fresh Pond Reservation Dog Medallion Program
The Fresh Pond Reservation Dog Medallion Program has been temporarily postponed. Medallions are not available for issue at this time. Please check back for updates!
The Cambridge Water Department will be piloting the Fresh Pond Reservation Dog Medallion Program. The Program has been developed in cooperation with Cambridge resident dog owners and City staff in order to better protect our city’s drinking water while allowing Cambridge residents to enjoy a quality off-leash experience with their dog. The Medallion Program extends off-leash privileges to Cambridge residents who agree in writing to comply with Reservation rules and regulations, which limit the impact of dog recreation on water quality, recent land improvements and on public safety.
The Program is designed to help Reservation staff manage the increasing number of dogs at Fresh Pond Reservation by requiring all dogs to be leashed if not wearing a Fresh Pond Reservation medallion. To acquire a free medallion, Cambridge residents must apply in person at the Ranger Station at Fresh Pond Reservation. There, they will sign an agreement to abide by the rules of the Reservation regarding dog recreation and receive their medallion. Residents must bring the valid Cambridge dog license certificate issued by the Cambridge Animal Commission at the time of licensing for the dog that they are registering.
Provisions of the Fresh Pond Reservation Dog Medallion Program:
- Dog owner shall read and sign an agreement to abide by all current dog rules and regulations.
- Dogs must wear their medallion in a visible location on a collar or harness in order to be off-leash on the Reservation.
- Participants are subject to all state and City laws and regulations regarding dogs.
- Program participants who do not abide by the signed agreement will be cited for non-compliance. A medallion will be revoked for the remainder of the licensing year after 2 written citations occurring in that same year.
