Middle School Program
Our
Middle School Program is aimed at young adults ages 11-14. This program
devlops social, emotional, and life skills to prepare them
for high school and beyond. One unique aspect to this group is the
amount of student involvment in running the program. They remain central
to all of the decisions made for the program even as far as deciding on
rules! Students can get involved in a wide variety of classes and
organizations including the Apple Coop, where
students run a business to Five Star Fashion where students design and
sew their own clothes!
Programs include:
That’s What’s Up
Learn to be a better public speaker while staying up on your current
events. That’s What’s Up is a class that focuses on reading and
discussing current events in a formal setting. This class will allow you
to become a better reader, speaker, and will also help you
develop/support your own opinion. It will help you in school as well as
life.
Five Star Fashion

Oh, the places you’ll sew!! Study the world of fashion stitch by stitch
while developing your own runway garb. Walk tall through the halls of
your school wearing designs that you created! Fashion Week, here I
come!!!
Keep It Clean
This place isn’t going to clean itself and with all the students that
come through it’s our responsibility to keep it a clean enjoyable place
to be. Weekly sand-blasting is required to keep everyone free of germs
and cobwebs.
Making the Band
Music is a unifying force that draws together people of different
creeds, cultures, ethnicities, and social classes. UNITE!!! BAND
TOGETHER!!! ROCK OUT!!! Join a band or make your own, bottom line: make
the world sing song of your creation. Learn from a smorgasbord of talent
including Peabody Elementary’s Joshua Dewitte, Tony Orlando Jones,
Lyrical, Blues, and Last Night’s Lo Mein’s Adam Corbeil
Event Planners
THEY’RE BACK… from a trip to Six Flags. Last year’s event planning
committee did so well they were able to raise the money for a two day
all expense paid trip to Six Flags Amusement Park. Organize fundraisers,
parties, dances, and tournaments while creating fun events for you and
your friends.
Apple Coop
Join the business end of afterschool. The mission of the Apple Coop is
to provide healthy and affordable snacks to afterschool while supporting
local farmers. Here’s how it works: We get apples in bulk loads at the
whole sale price from Lanni
Orchards in Lunenburg, Ma. Then we split up the huge of apples
cases into smaller, consumer-friendly bags to be sold at an affordable price. Learn how to make your
city a
healthier place while earning an honest profit. Apples in your tummy,
bread in your pocket: A delicious combination.
Tennis Lessons
Enjoy the game of tennis in the fall air. Work on technique, game
strategies, and your mental health through hitting forehand winners back
at your partner.
All Sorts ‘o’ Sports
Broaden your athletic ability and coordination through our alternating
sports circuit. Each week Jason and Margaret will introduce a new sport
to learn and play. Studies show that participation in alternative sports
increases an athlete’s ability to excel in their primary sport.
Michael Jordan used golf and play baseball to improve his hand/eye
coordination for Basketball. The whole Ohio State football program uses
Hot Yoga to enhance the balance and flexibility. What will you use?
Bike Club
Introduction to bike safety and maintenance. We will focus on tuning up
and gearing up for weekly rides around the Cambridge area. This course
will be a collaboration with the Frisoli Youth Center in East Cambridge.
Look What’s Cooking
Yummy in the tummy goes the pickles, cheese, and honey. Ok, not quite
like that. Learn to cook foods from around the world and develop your
own cookbook to share at home. The best part, you get to eat your
work!!! Mmmm. Guest appearances by Cambridge Health Alliances Dawn
Olcott.
