Community Development Block Grant
About the CDBG Program
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Division acts as a conduit for Federal funds into the City of Cambridge. CDBG is responsible for managing and disbursement of Cambridge’s Federal allocation, and is charged with ensuring the compliance to Federal guidelines of all receiving parties.
Beginning in 1974, Cambridge’s CDBG Division has helped the City’s Community Development Department and various other non-profit organizations utilize more than $95 million in Federal assistance. These programs fund services to the homeless, the creation and maintenance of affordable housing units within the City, and programs and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for Cambridge’s lower income population. Together with the millions of dollars leveraged with Block Grant funds, Cambridge’s CDBG Division is an integral component of the quantity and quality of services delivered by Cambridge’s Community Development Department.
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 appropriated $1 billion to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in CDBG funds for states and local governments to carry out activities eligible under the CDBG program in an expedited manner. The funds were allocated based on the same formula employed for the allocation of standard CDBG funds, with all Recovery Act projects being treated as a substantial amendment to their current year’s Plan and are referred to as CDBG-R funds. The City of Cambridge will receive $851, 070 in CDBG-R funds.
Five Year Consolidated Plan
The City of Cambridge has a completed 5-Year Consolidated Plan covering the period begriming July 1, 2005 and ending June 30, 2011. A copy is available at the Community Development Offices for the public's review.
