Followup Survey

The City's contractor, WB&A Marketing, has recently completed a follow up transportation survey of East Cambridge households. Data analysis is underway and results are expected in November. We hope to have the inforamtion published by late December or January. The data collected will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of transportation planning projects in the area, to support planning practices, and to identify opportunities for additional programs. Thank you to everyone who participated; we appreciate your help.

About CitySmart

CitySmart connects you with the information and resources you need to get around without getting behind the wheel. Biking, walking and transit take you where you need to be. Whether it’s a trip to the grocery store or a day at the beach—getting there really can be half the fun.

CitySmart is a pilot program to test the application of social marketing techniques on transportation choices. Based on successful implementation in Europe, Australia and the United States, we hope to achieve a shift of approximately 10% of single-occupant vehicle trips to more sustainable modes, such as walking, bicycling and transit.

The CitySmart pilot began in the Cambridgeport neighborhood, moved to North Cambridge in 2010, and is in East Cambridge for 2011. Upon successful completion, we hope to rotate the project to other neighborhoods throughout the City.

In May and June, 2009, we mailed a CitySmart newsletter (PDF, 125 KB) to all residential addresses within Cambridgeport. Inside the newsletter was an order form, for neighborhood residents to request free information about the transportation options available in and around Cambridgeport. Requested materials were compiled into a CitySmart Kit and delivered to your door via Metro Pedal Power's bicycle delivery service.

In May through September, 2010, the CitySmart program was available to residents of North Cambridge, following the same model as was used in 2009. For 2011, CitySmart is available to residents of East Cambridge.
