About Environmental Planning
The Environmental and Transportation Planning Division works to protect and improve environmental quality in Cambridge through programs and projects that prevent pollution, encourage environmentally friendly alternatives, and remediate contamination. Current activities include coordination of Cambridge's participation in the Cities for Climate Protection; conducting environmental reviews of major development projects under local, state, and federal regulatory processes; and managing environmental investigations.
The division works closely with the other City offices to implement environmental programs.
Climate Protection
Recognizing that global warming, or climate change, poses significant potential impacts , the City of Cambridge has made a commitment to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to the problem.

Protection Initiatives, including the Climate Protection Plan and Advisory Committee
Environmental Investigation
Since 2001, the City has been monitoring the effectiveness of on-going groundwater remediation performed by ExxonMobil's licensed site professional, related to contamination at the Fresh Pond Mobil station to ensure that the contamination does not impact the adjacent Tobin School.
