City-Organized Events
GoGreen in Central Square / GoGreen Month Kickoff
What: To kick off GoGreen Month, the City will host an information and outreach event at City Hall (sidewalk in front), with representatives from the City of Cambridge, and transportation organizations such as the MBTA, Zipcar and MassRIDES.

First Mondays @ Cambridge Arts Council
What: In conjunction with the CAC Gallery exhibitions, the Cambridge Arts Council presents this free monthly, multisensory event series, First Mondays @ CAC Gallery, on the first Monday of each month in the intimate CAC Gallery.

Hunt for the Golden Shoes
What: Look for a golden shoe while you are out walking in Cambridge. Shoes may be hidden in parks, near walking paths, in retail districts, along school routes, and anywhere that people walk. If you find a Golden Shoe, follow the directions on the attached card, to claim a prize!

Water Department "Water Week"
What: Plans are in development. Past years' events included information displays as well as a day when school children can visit interactive displays about the water cycle, water pollution, and water processing.

Fresh Pond Day
What: A celebration of the City's largest open space. There will be activities for all ages, including musical performances, tours, demonstrations and displays. For more information, visit the Fresh Pond web page.

Cambridge Open Studios
What: walk, bike or take the T to explore art in Cambridge! Meet hundreds of artists and discover unique paintings, jewelry, fiber arts, ceramics, film,

Reduce Reuse Recycle
What: Randi Mail, Cambridge recycling director, will talk with us about ways we can live more sustainably including composting indoors and out, wise recycling, and getting rid of stuff without throwing it away. This should be an enjoyable and informative evening, with time for discussion and questions.

GoGreen at the Library

DPW Vehicle Road Show
What: See Public Works fleet vehicles, learn about their jobs, and hear how several have "green" features.

Bicycle Commuter Appreciation
What: As part of National Bike to Work Day, the Cambridge Bicycle Committee and the City of Cambridge will be thanking commuters who bike to work by presenting them with a small giveaway. Members of the Bicycle Committee will be stationed at locations throughout the city to catch cyclists on their way to work and give them their gift.

Cambridge Spring Bicycle Tour
What: Musical Mystery Bicycle Tour - Cambridge has a rich history of musical accomplishment. From Sanders Theater in the 19th century, to Club 47 in the 1960’s and the Inn Square Men's Bar in the 1980’s, our city has always been making and listening to music. Come ride with us past sites that made music history, learn about the musicians who lived and recorded here, and listen to the music that Cambridge now has to offer.

Preservation Recognition Program
What: The Cambridge Historical Commission honors the outstanding preservation projects of 2010. Light refereshments will be served.

What: Award presentation to recognize Cambridge businesse and organizations that make outstanding environmental efforts in the areas of transportation, recycling/waste reduction, stormwater management, and energy.

Commute A Better Way Day
What: Cambridge's voluntary car-free day to encourage single occupant vehicle commuters to try a different mode of transportation. Participants will take the "Commute A Better Way pledge", stating that they will try walking, cycling, taking the T, carpooling, or another option, instead of driving to work. They will also be entered into a drawing to win a FREE copy of "Car-Free in Boston". To take the pledge, send an email, including your name, commute mode choice for May 31, usual commute mode, round trip commute mileage, and mailing address (in case you win the prize).

Bike Week Events
Green Homes Bike Tour
What: We will ride our bikes along a 5.5 mile route in Somerville and North Cambridge, making stops for short tours or discussions at 4 or 5 homes that have taken decidedly "green" measures, including a range from geothermal heat pumps and solar panels, to simple weatherization measures, to composting and local gardening. The day will end with a chance to socialize and unwind with refreshments.

Smarter Living - Expo
What: swissnex Boston hosts a series of exciting, interactive events around sustainable living. HEET Electricity Vampire Hunt and Efficiency-ware Party

Cambridge Green Streets Initiative's Walk/Ride Day
What: As part of Cambridge Green Streets Initiative's Last-Friday-of-the-Month Walk/Ride Day, we encourage people who live, work or send children to school in Cambridge to walk, bike, take the bus or train, pogo-stick, stilt, scooter, etc. to work, errands, or school on that day each month. Check with your school's or businesses's coordinator, or become one yourself! This month's Walk/Ride day includes additional special events. Check their webpage for updates on a book-signing event and a City Hall event, as additional details are confirmed.

LIFT Bike Project event
What: The LIFT Bike Project provides homeless and low-income LIFT clients living in the Cambridge area with free helmets, locks, and refurbished bicycles. LIFT is a nonprofit which helps combat poverty by pairing trained volunteers with homeless and low-income clients. we will have a celebration on the steps of the Cambridge City Hall with brief speeches and light refreshments. Following this short reception, we will give out the bikes, helmets, and locks to LIFT Bike Project Recipients.
