It has come to the attention of the City Council that the Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers and Harvard University have experienced difficulty negotiating the terms of a new contract to replace an existing agreement that expired on June 30, 2012; and
WHEREAS:
For 24 years, Harvard University and the Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers have worked collaboratively to ensure that the needs of both entitites are met to the best extent possible. Negotiations that ensure a consistent salary increase program and affordable health care solutions for union employees are essential for the sustenance of Cambridge's local economy, community, and employees therein; now therefore be it
ORDERED:
That the City Council go on record expressing support for the negotiated terms of a new contract between the Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers and Harvard University as detailed by the Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers; and be it further
ORDERED:
That the City Clerk be and hereby is requested to forward a suitably engrossed copy of this resolution to Harvard University and the Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers on behalf of the entire City Council.
