WHEREAS:

That City of Cambridge's Office of Workforce Development manages the Cambridge Works transitional jobs program, which is designed to serve Cambridge residents (ages 18-35) who, for a variety of reasons, have not been able to get or keep jobs; and

   
WHEREAS:

The centerpiece of the transitional jobs model is "learning to work" by "going to work;" and 

     
WHEREAS:

The City and a limited number of private sector partners provide a 13-week temporary job as a vehicle for participants to learn basic job-readiness skills; and 

     

WHEREAS:

That Cambridge Works transitional jobs program recently celebrated the accomplishments of eight Cambridge Works graduates, who are the tenth graduating class; now therefore be it 

 

ORDERED:

That the City Manager be and hereby is requested to confer with the Assistant City Manager for Human Services and provide a report to the City Council noting how the capacity of this program might be increased such that it may serve an even greater number of the city's young adults.
