COUNCILLOR DECKER

WHEREAS: It is requested that a formal report be conducted to address overheated classrooms in the City of Cambridge that address the following questions:
    
 
  • What is the communication framework to keep parents and teachers informed and updated;
  • What is a reasonable temperature for a classroom;
  • How many classrooms throughout the City of Cambridge can be categorized as "overheated."
  • What schools have been identified as home to the aforementioned overheated classrooms; and
  • What are the safety and electrical hazards and challenges preventing the city from bringing in portable air conditioning units;

and

     
WHEREAS: Unpredictable ad/hoc transitions to offsite temporary classrooms (i.e. Youth Centers) are fraught with their own challenges and disruptions to both students and teachers; now therefore be it
   

ORDERED:

That the City Manager be and hereby is requested to provide a formal report that addresses these questions as well as the concerns and general input of parents and teachers, and propose a short-term plan to the City Council; and be it further
       

ORDERED:

That the City Manager be and hereby is requested to report back to the City Council and School Committee regarding this request.
