On December 14, 2006 bids were received for the Robert W. Healy Public Safety Facility. Only two pre-qualified contractors submitted bids, they were Boston Building and Bridge and W.T. Rich Construction.
Boston Building and Bridge of Milton, Massachusetts, was awarded the construction contract.
On December 18, 2006, the City Manager requested additional funding for the project. The request was unanimously approved by the City Council. Three weeks later, on January 8, 2007, there was a second reading of the funding request, which was unanimously approved by the City Council.
Construction began in February of 2007. The estimated construction build out duration is anticipated to be 15 months from the start of the project. After construction is completed, the City will install Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment, which will take approximately 3 months. The scheduled occupancy by the Police Department of 125 Sixth Street is late summer of 2008. The Emergency Communications Center is scheduled to move after the Police Department is operational. The exact date has not yet been determined.
Current construction activities include selective demolition and structural modifications.
