fragments, an exhibition by John Powell

John Powell's Word's on Fire

February 1 – March 30, 2007
Opening Reception: Wednesday, February 14, 2007, 5:30 - 7:30 P.M.

Local artist John Powell sculpts light and shadow. His artwork incorporates natural and artificial light, mirrors, images, texts, and fragmented forms that make the physicality of light visible. For CAC Gallery and the exterior of City Hall Annex, Powell conducts and shapes light through fragments of text and image.

Familiar to many are Powell's local, temporary and permanent installations, such as the Zoetrope Plaza, the new home of WGBH; the dedication of the Arsenal Center for the Arts upon its opening; bridges across the Charles River, a commemoration of the new millennium at the Boston Public Library, and Evelyn Moakely Bridge illumination in honor of the Democratic National Convention in Boston.
