ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Urban Forestry and Landscapes, performs semi-skilled manual labor in connection with the general care of trees where climbing is required.  Cuts trees, repairs, and trims trees and shrubs; performs related tasks in the repair, maintenance, and care of trees and shrubs.  Uses a variety of tools necessary to perform tree care and maintenance.  In addition, operates pick-up trucks, dump trucks, panel trucks with a rated capacity of 26,001 pounds or under; passenger automobiles, sidewalk plows and sweepers; small tractors, bulldozers and rollers.  Plows and sands sidewalks; greases, oils, and performs manual labor tasks when not working as a Motor Equipment Operator.  Loads and unloads trucks; picks up and hauls materials; and transports personnel.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

One year of tree climbing experience and a current and valid Commercial Drivers' License Classification B plus 1-B Hoisting Engineer License required. Department of Transportation medical certifications may be required of applicants pursuant to the Teamsters Local 25 collective bargaining agreement.

Note:   A Practical Test may be required in addition to experience requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ PHYSICAL DEMANDS

All labor positions, skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled in the Cambridge Department of Public Works require a combination of:  lifting between 25-100 pounds, bending, squatting, stretching, pushing, dragging, climbing, and pulling.  Employee will be exposed to all weather conditions and will work in a moderate to high noise level environment caused by sound of machinery or powered equipment being used.   Employee is required to adhere to all safety and dress code policies.  Department of Transportation medical certifications may be required of applicants pursuant to the Teamsters Local 25 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

RATE: $26.40 - $30.81 per hour plus excellent benefits
