ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Motor Equipment Repair/MEOIIA Foreperson, the Motor Equipment Repair Worker will perform skilled repair and maintenance of motor equipment; inspects and troubleshoots gasoline, diesel and hybrid vehicles and other small engine-powered equipment; complete tune-ups; repairs electrical systems; adjusts brakes and clutches; front-end work; replaces faulty or worn parts; and related welding and metal working duties. Also performs skilled maintenance and repair of large diesel equipment such as dump trucks and heavy construction equipment to include Air Brakes and Hydraulic systems. May also perform preventive maintenance tasks such as lubrication, replacing oil filters, washing and vacuuming of fleet vehicles and other similar duties. Knowledge of large plow installation, maintenance and repair is desirable.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

At least two years of full-time responsible mechanic experience.  Extensive knowledge of the methods and procedures used in the repair and maintenance of standard motor vehicles, specialized and heavy duty motor equipment used in a large municipality including welding and light fabrication; extensive knowledge of the operating principals of both diesel and gasoline internal combustion engines; direct and coordinate large scale automotive repair and maintenance activities.  Applicant must be organized and possess the skills to communicate with customers, supervisors, vendors, and peers in a professional way, applicant must possess computer skills and be willing to be trained in work order inventory control programs designated by the City; ability to express one self clearly and concisely orally and in writing.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  Must possess a Class B CDL license, DOT Medical Certificate & a valid Class 2B Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License, issued by the Department of Public Safety, or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.  ASE certifications preferred.

RATE: $22.05 to $28.46/hour + excellent benefits
